Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will plan and carry out activities of grant funded oral health disparities studies to reduce caries disparities in community settings. The research assistant will assist the research team with all aspects of the study including participant recruitment, retention, data collection and management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Plan and carry out projects in accordance with general plans. Recruit participants and collect study data during on-site subject visits at community locations as outlined in the study protocol. Conduct a series of research activities to supply scientific information as part of a larger project by conducting follow-up interviews with participants to obtain additional and/or clarifying information. (35%) Build and establish relationships with participants and community site staff to ensure successful completion of study objectives. Maintain communication with study subjects, aiding in participant retention, to obtain scheduled visit details for completion of follow-up in-person study visits. (20%) Monitor data collection activities for the study. Oversee data entry of participant responses into the database, audit entered data, perform quality control to ensure that data is entered correctly and assist with data analysis. (15%) Partner with other research staff to develop and maintain updates of protocols and manual of procedures (MOP) for the study. (10%) Collect and analyze data from interview surveys and compile summary data for weekly project meetings, progress reports, IRB submissions, presentations and manuscript submissions. Develop materials for professional and public presentations of the results. (10%) Work with the principal investigator and research operations manager to implement and ensure compliance with study protocols. May assist in developing improved techniques, projection methods or procedures for scheduling, tracking and completing subject visits. (6%)

CONTACTS

Department: Daily interaction with research assistants and the principal investigator. Monthly interaction with department administrative staff regarding research operations. University: Occasional interaction with co-investigators to exchange research information. External: Daily interaction with study participants for recruitment, study and follow up visits. Weekly contact with community site staff in order to arrange appointments and communicate scheduling. Occasional contact with site participants. Students: May have occasional contact with work study students to train on research procedures and direct work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. May share in the training of new staff and direct the work of students.

QUALIFICAITONS

Education/Experience/Licensing: Bachelor's degree and 1 to 3 years of related experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2 to 4 years of experience required. Major in clinical science, social science, epidemiology or related field preferred. Experience in a health related field preferred. Valid Ohio driver's license and reliable vehicle required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Experience working with older adults is highly desired. Experience working on clinical research projects at all levels, including data collection and management preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including social and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills. Computer skills including proficiency with spread sheets and database applications. Ability to plan and carry out projects in accordance with protocol. Must be punctual and flexible. Ability to provide attention to detail, such as recording information accurately. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Proficiency in computer software use including Microsoft Office. Experience with SPSS or SAS is a plus. Willingness to learn and work with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies. Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. WORKING CONDITIONS

In addition to working in a general office environment, the employee will be required to drive to community sites located in Northeast Ohio to cover off-site study visits, which may occur after normal business hours and/or on weekends. #J-18808-Ljbffr
