SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER POSITION SUMMARY

Provide day to day academic and behavior support to assigned students. Provide case management for assigned students and maintain all required special education documents.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Academic Instruction

  • Show evidence of pre-planned lessons plans and design lessons in clear, logical, sequential format.
  • Present lessons consistent with the curriculum guide and uses learning activities designed to achieve stated objectives.
  • Provide efficient and smooth transition between activities.
  • Make appropriate use of a variety of instructional materials.
  • Spend very little time on non-learning activities and set a pace for learning that is consistent with each student's functional ability.
  • Lessons are planned to meet each student's goals and objectives listed in the IEP.
  • Exhibit competence in their assigned teaching area.

Reports/Forms

  • Maintain attendance reports in required online system.
  • Complete weekly progress reports that indicate regular assessment of student's goals and progress and submit for principal review.
  • Participate in parent teacher conferences.
  • Prepare, administer and maintain student evaluation instruments, such as, student assignments, teacher grade book and report cards in required timeframe.
  • Review, revise, and update IEP's as needed in online program.
  • Submit list of all IEP annual/re-evaluation deadlines to Clinical Supervisor.
  • Develop, complete and implement Curriculum Guide, mapping, and pre/post-test as assigned.

Behavioral Management

  • Establish and maintain a positive and effective rapport with all students.
  • Develop classroom management plan and classroom rules are clearly posted in room.
  • Display a calm, neutral manner and tone when managing student behavior.
  • Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
  • Implement the C.H.O.I.C.E.S Curriculum and utilize the Five Step Problem Solving Model when addressing student behaviors, concerns and needs.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with school counselor regarding students' academic and behavior concerns, interpersonal relationships, and coping skills.
  • Collaborate and maintain communication with parents in the best interest of the students regarding behavioral and/or academic concerns.
  • Plan and facilitate classroom team meetings with assigned paraprofessional and counselor.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and in-services.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues in planning and implementing instructional activities.
  • Share ideas, resources, materials, and methods with other staff members.
  • Work cooperatively with administration to implement school policies and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. LBS1 required or PEL and willing to obtain LBS1.
  2. Experience working with youth with emotional/behavioral/academic difficulties preferred.
  3. Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment.
  4. The ability to work and interact with all school personnel and students in a cooperative, collaborative and courteous manner.
  5. Ability to work under stressful situations.
  6. Able to build effective rapport with student population.
  7. Must have effective organizational skills, time management, and flexibility to meet staff and students' needs.
  8. Have a willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position.
