Job Summary

Technology Specialist
JOB GOAL

Oversee technology instruction, resource management, and Robotics Lab programming at the Saban Center.


QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university (Master's Degree preferred).


2. Strong technical skills or work experience in an educational setting involving extensive use of technology, involvement in technology integration, and delivery of technology-rich professional development preferred.

3. Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility is required.

4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Demonstrated experience in instructional technology, professional development, and staff training.

2. Strong understanding of state and national computer science, math, and science standards and experience in curriculum development, including technology integration and usage.


3. Knowledge of current technology trends, applications, and tools, including AI.

4. Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.

5. Comprehensive knowledge of accepted "best practices" in teaching, including co-teaching models and collaborative educational practices.

6. Skilled in the use of evaluation instruments consistent with the goals and objectives of the Saban Center.

7. Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Develop and deliver technology-based learning experiences for students and educators.
  2. Oversee Robotics Lab resources, materials, and equipment to ensure readiness for all programs.
  3. Train teachers (internal staff and visiting educators) in the use of educational technologies.
  4. Stay current with trends in edtech and incorporate them into PD offerings and classroom lessons
  5. Plan and implement seasonal technology-themed offerings such as summer camps, STEM competitions, and special events, and support similar large-scale initiatives, including robotics, drone, and AI-focused programs.
  6. Completes reports, collects data, and provides information for program monitoring as requested.
  7. Assists administrative personnel in the selection, mentoring, coaching, and induction of new Saban Center personnel.
  8. Attends staff meetings, applicable professional development, and programs in instruction and curriculum.
  9. Performs other assignments as assigned by the supervisor.
  10. Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to the district's absence management system.
  11. Reports to work on time and regularly as designated by work schedule (Saban Center schedule may not align with the TCS academic calendar. Saban Center employees will follow Saban Center event schedule, which may include occasional evening hours, weekends, and summer obligations.)
  12. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the TCS Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act, Saban Center Board Policy, and the TCS Board's Salary Schedule - Specialist. This is a 245 contract day position.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the TCS Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
