We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

Join Also as a Firmware Engineering Intern and contribute to cutting-edge embedded systems development. You'll design and implement firmware solutions for our mobility products while gaining hands-on experience with modern development practices and testing frameworks.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product development

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices

  • Ride and test your developments on our TM-B vehicle and other future platforms

What You’ll Gain

  • Real-world embedded engineering experience that goes far beyond coursework

  • A strong foundation in firmware development, hardware bring-up, and systems-level thinking

  • Hands-on experience debugging embedded systems on actual vehicles and prototypes

  • Exposure to the end-to-end lifecycle of mobility product development

  • A chance to contribute meaningful code to production-bound systems

What You Will Bring

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

  • Proficiency in C programming

  • Understanding of embedded systems fundamentals

  • Python scripting experience

  • ARM Cortex-M microcontroller experience

  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)

  • Build system experience (Bazel, West, CMake, Make, or similar)

  • Version control systems (Git)

  • Structured software development approach

  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Effective team collaboration across departments

  • Clear communication about knowledge gaps and learning needs

  • Adaptability in fast-paced environments

  • Self-motivated with strong initiative

  • Graduation date of 2027

What You’ll Learn
  • How to design, implement, and debug embedded firmware for real mobility products

  • Hands-on experience programming in C for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers

  • How embedded systems interact with hardware, sensors, actuators, and real-world conditions

  • How to write supporting Python scripts for testing, tooling, and automation

  • How modern build systems work (Bazel, West, CMake, Make, etc.)

  • How to use CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) to build, test, and ship firmware

Preferred Experience

  • RTOS Experience

  • Previous internship or project work in a startup, automotive, or mobility company

The hourly rate for this role ranges from $30.00 to $45.00/hr, based on experience and qualifications.

Why ALSO.

We’re passionate about helping the world find a better way to get there—wherever it is you’re headed.

We’re located in the heart of Silicon Valley and have brought together a world-class team from some of the biggest brands in the technology, automotive, cycling, outdoor recreation and retail spaces.

Together we’re working hands-on to imagine, design and build an entirely new solution to a global set of transportation challenges.
