Nurse Paralegal (Legal Nurse Consultant)

Hybrid | Downtown Cleveland, OH

A well‐established defense litigation firm in Downtown Cleveland is seeking an experienced Nurse Paralegal (Legal Nurse Consultant) to join its team. This hybrid role is ideal for a clinically strong Registered Nurse who enjoys applying medical expertise in a legal setting and supporting attorneys on complex medical‐related cases.

About the Role

The Nurse Paralegal will work closely with attorneys to analyze medical issues, interpret clinical documentation, and support case strategy across medical malpractice, personal injury, and insurance defense matters. This position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to translate medical information into clear, concise legal work product.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Record Review & Analysis

  • Review, interpret, and summarize medical records, diagnostic reports, and treatment histories.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies , treatment timelines , and injury summaries .
  • Identify missing or inconsistent records and coordinate retrieval in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Analyze medical billing and treatment expenses to assist with damages evaluations.

Litigation Support

  • Provide clinical insight to attorneys regarding diagnoses, causation, standards of care, and treatment protocols.
  • Assist with deposition preparation, including identifying key medical issues and discrepancies.
  • Draft memoranda, summaries, correspondence, and case-related documentation.
  • Support discovery efforts and assist in preparing medical exhibits for hearings, mediations, and trial.

Research & Expert Coordination

  • Conduct medical research related to conditions, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Assist in identifying, vetting, and communicating with medical experts.
  • Review expert reports for accuracy and consistency with medical records.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience (ICU, ER, med‐surg, or similar preferred).
  • Prior experience as a Nurse Paralegal , Legal Nurse Consultant, or relevant law firm experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex medical information into clear legal summaries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with legal/medical software systems.

Preferred

  • Paralegal certificate or formal paralegal training.
  • Experience in medical malpractice, personal injury, or insurance defense litigation.
  • Familiarity with litigation procedures, discovery, and expert coordination.
