The Environmental Specialist I position at Auxilio Management Services is a full-time position, requiring 2 to 5 years’ relevant experience, and is based out of Denver, Colorado. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for executing field characterization activities and translating environmental data into high-quality technical reports. This role involves a mix of rigorous field work—primarily groundwater and soil sampling—and office-based data analysis and technical writing to support regulatory compliance, site remediation, and environmental assessments.

The Environmental Specialist will assist Project Managers and Field Team Leads in the implementation and oversight of environmental field activities. The position requires the selected candidate to demonstrate a working knowledge of environmental sampling techniques for air, groundwater, surface water, and soils, as well as installation of groundwater monitoring wells. Approximately 50 percent of time will be spent in field settings collecting samples, interviewing personnel, and analyzing field conditions. The Environmental Specialist will also assist Project Managers in the execution of environmental regulatory compliance and remedial activities, including providing regulatory compliance support to clients, preparation of technical documents, and field management of subcontractors. The selected candidate must be detail oriented and provide superb quality regarding safety and health, fieldwork, and deliverable preparation. Good communication (written and verbal) and client relations skills are required.

Experience, Education and Skills Required:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Science, Geology, or Environmental/Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years’ field experience, including environmental media sampling (specifically, low-flow groundwater sampling)
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification / 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of time in support of field activities
  • Good written and verbal communication required; proven ability to draft clear, concise, and technically accurate reports with minimal supervision
  • Highly skilled with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word)
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to solve problems
  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently under clear guidance
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and lift equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access and clearance for federal installations
  • Detailed understanding of chain of custody procedures and interpretation of laboratory analytical reports

 

 

Experience, Education and Skills Preferred/Desired:

  • 3-5 years’ field experience, including environmental media sampling and monitoring well installation
  • Experience with Environmental Compliance and Remediation projects under various regulatory programs including but not limited to: Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA); Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA); Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA); National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); UST/ AST/Leaking Storage Tanks (UST).
  • Experience with PFOA/PFAS sampling protocols
  • Federal project experience
  • Experience as a site safety officer during field activities
  • Experience providing oversight of subcontractor field staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience with GIS and database applications

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The following job duties are anticipated. The position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time.

  • Perform environmental sample collection (soil, groundwater, surface water, air, vapor).
  • Assist in the preparation of technical work plans, quality assurance plans, quality control plans, stormwater management plans, and health and safety plans for environmental projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of portions of technical documents including but not limited to NEPA documents, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, RCRA Facility Investigations, and RCRA Corrective Measures Studies.
  • Perform field oversight of environmental investigation and remediation projects including, but not limited to various drilling methods (auger, direct-push), soil and groundwater remediation, underground storage tank/aboveground storage tank management.
  • Assist in the preparation of subcontract agreements and purchase requisitions.
  • Assist in the management of subcontractors retained to perform environmental compliance and remediation projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical proposals for environmental investigation and remediation projects.

Special Requirements:

Travel is required: estimated at approximately 50% on average. Ability to support projects on-site for project durations that may last from several days to several weeks, depending on the project, is essential. Periods may occur when travel may be more or less than average.

Salary Range:

$70,000 to $85,000 per year
