Job Summary

Our organization is currently seeking a Documentation Specialist for our Southwestern Pennsylvania-based mechanical test services laboratory. In this role, you will complete engineering documents with accurate content and consistent format in a highly dynamic engineering environment. The Documentation Specialist edits drafts for effective flow without distorting scientific facts to achieve proper presentation of the final document.

Work From Home

Following a period of on-site training, the Documentation Specialist will be able to split time between the physical office and working remotely/from home with the potential of a remote-first schedule pending manager approval.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive plots/graphs/photos/testing descriptions from engineers to sort and build into Word formatted report.
  • Use existing report template, modify existing template, monitor the consistency of format, and create new template accordingly.
  • Reference existing reports/quotes for use with new reports.
  • Validate test facts with engineers and technicians as needed.
  • Follow engineering instructions on the content of reports.
  • Convert large amounts of data (ASCII format, Excel, or other formats) to Word tables.
  • Record all test procedures/instrument configurations with unwavering consistency.
  • Record all test findings according to engineer directions with certain regularity.
  • Attach logbook and other applicable information to each report.
  • Check entire report before engineer/QA review and check all references.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as needed and required by management.

Qualifications & Competency Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A two-year degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, or English is preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in relevant technical field to include writing technical documents, manuals, and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat, such as PDF conversion and indexing.
  • Commitment to producing quality work and attention to detail including but not limited to grammar, punctuation, readability, and consistent format.
  • Effective communication and report writing skills; experience with large engineering reports is a plus.
  • Ability to edit drafts without compromising engineering facts for proper presentation of the final report.
  • Familiarity with engineering file archiving is a plus.
  • Ability to sort and incorporate large amounts of graphs, plots, and photos to file.
  • Experience in quality management system/document control is a plus.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment, including working proactively with engineers to minimize errors in reports.
  • Comfortable with the self-discipline required to work from home while maintaining excellence in all job duties and areas of responsibility.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and background checks.
  • Must be a US citizen.

This is a full-time, hourly, Non-exempt position.
